La Niña Greets Jackson Hole Skiers
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort opened for the 2011-12 season Saturday, with La Niña early season snowfall depositing nearly seven feet of snow at the summit. Seven of the 11 lifts were open over the weekend serving the 32 trails that were groomed and available to skiers. Among those lifts was the new Marmot double chair carrying skiers and snowboarders 1200 vertical feet from South Pass Traverse, below the existing Thunder Lift, to the top of the Gondola. Meanwhile, Grand Targhee Ski Resort in Alta also opened over the weekend with service on the Shoshone lift and Papoose Conveyor serving the Kids Fun Zone. Both ski areas boast the highest snowfall among all the ski resorts in the Rocky Mountain region.
