Major Speech Meet Planned

speech

Jackson Hole High School’s Speech and Debate team is preparing for its annual invitational speech tournament early next month.  Typically, says team coach Mark Hauser, approximately 12 schools attend from throughout the state.  That, says Hauser, provides not only a wonderful opportunity for the students to compete against each other, but for the community to showcase itself to over 400 young people and their chaperones.  Hauser estimates the meet brings about $10,000 in business to the community.  With a competition of that size, the event has some 300 judging slots to fill.  Hauser says the event runs from 3:00 pm Friday, February 10th until 5:00 pm Saturday, February 11th.  The team will hold judges’ orientation sessions prior to the tournament on Thursday, February 2nd  and Tuesday, 7th  at the high school to provide general tournament information, judging rules, explanations of events and presentations by team members.  Hauser says childcare is also available for the convenience of the volunteers.  Hauser urges those interested to contact him at 733-8349.
