Streeper Wins For A Fourth Time
Blayne “Bud” Streeper from Fort Nelson, British Columbia, is the winner of the 2012 International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race with an overall time of 19:52.42. This is the fourth first-place IPSSSDR win for Streeper, who also won the race in 2004, 2010 and 2011. Aaron Peck from Grand Prairie, Alberta, took second place in the 2012 race with a cumulative time of 20:09.27 while John Stewart of Scotland was third with a final time of 20:23.40. The race, which began January 27th in downtown Jackson concluded one week later at Deadhorse Trailhead, south of Mountain View, Wyoming. The race was inaugurated in 1996 by Frank Teasley of Jackson, with the help of Teton County Public Nurse Jayne Ottman to showcase the state of Wyoming and to make sled dog racing more accessible to the public. In addition, the race worked to spread the word about the need for childhood immunizations. Each year since, the race makes a contribution to communities along the race route for childhood immunizations.
