Spring Run-off To Be Low
Snow water equivalents (SWEs) across Wyoming showed some improvement during January; but by early February, SWEs continued to be below average across the majority of western, central, and southern Wyoming headwater watersheds. Wyoming NOAA Hydrologist Jim Fahey says headwater creeks and streams along the Shoshone, Powder, and Tongue Drainages continued to have above normal snowpack “water” numbers by early February. However, the numbers in northwestern Wyoming continue to be below 90%. As such, Fahey says spring runoff here will likely be low to moderate.
