Fatal Avalanche At Cooke City
An avalanche triggered by a group of seven snowmobilers near Cooke City, Montana claimed the life of one and partially buried two others. According to the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center, the slide occurred around 12:30 pm Wednesday as the victim turned his sled around at the edge of Miller Road near Daisy Pass. Forest officials say the man was not on a steep slope, nor was the avalanche path obvious. According to an investigation by the Park County, Montana Sheriff’s office, the men’s companions immediately went to the aid of the three who had been buried and dug them out. The report says the man who died was immediately given CPR, but it failed to revive him. The two other buried riders were transported by a Yellowstone National Park ambulance to Livingston Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment. So far, the snowmobilers involved are only identified as being from Saskatchewan Canada.
