Raid On Tourism Funds Fended Off

Efforts in the Wyoming House yesterday to strip funds from the Travel and Tourism budget were fended off by members of the Teton County delegation led by Representative Ruth Ann Petroff.  Speaker Pro Tempore Keith Gingery says the county’s representatives successfully argued that the money spent on tourism actually generates more money for the state.  Gingery says the two of them explained that for every dollar spent in tourism promotion, the state realizes $9 return from visitation.   Gingery says they explained that especially with the regional market including Denver or Rapid City that the tourists make a variety of stops as they make their way through Wyoming; visiting such areas as Devils Tower, Sinks Canyon, Sundance, or Fossil Butte even if their ultimate destination is one of the two national parks in northwestern Wyoming
