Don’t Collect Antlers Yet
As elk around the valley begin to shed their antlers, wildlife officials are concerned there are those who might be tempted to violate current restrictions on antler hunting. Wyoming Game and Fish Spokesman Mark Gocke points out that the gathering of shed antlers is prohibited through April 30th on all public lands in Wyoming west of the Continental Divide. Gocke says people caught poaching can be cited and fined; and he adds that with any regulation, the department realizes enforcement and public cooperation is key to its effectiveness. Gocke urges anyone who observes someone who appears to be violating the shed antler regulations, they should call the local game and fish office or the stop poaching hotline. That number is 877-WGFD-TIP. Tips may result in a reward and Gocke says the informants may choose to remain anonymous.
