Weather Delays Investigation
A winter storm in southeastern Wyoming has delayed the investigation into last week’s shooting in Teton County that left a 19-year-old Jackson man hospitalized with a shoulder injury. Clancy Shaffer suffered the wound when he says he was accosted by an unknown assailant on a bike path near his home in Cottonwood Park. Sergeant Cole Nethercott says evidence collected at the scene and from the victim’s home was delayed in arriving at the state crime lab in Cheyenne, and now reduced numbers of staff in the lab due to the storm have delayed the analysis of the evidence even further. Nethercott says findings from the crime lab are now anticipated sometime next week. In the meantime, Nethercott says police are continuing to process that evidence that was not sent to the lab, and to seek additional leads in the case.
