Moose-Wilson Road To Be Rerouted

With the appearance of grizzly bears now along the Moose/Wilson road in Grand Teton National Park, closures of that road have frequently become necessary for the protection of the animals as they spend time in the riparian zones near the road looking for berries and other food sources.  Park Superintendent Mary Gibson Scott this week told the elected officials in Jackson Hole that plans are being made now to realign the road taking it away from those areas bears frequent.  Scott says the plan is to take the road out of that area into the flat, open sage areas to the east where there appears to be the footprint of a previous route, and from there, realign the road to join the Teton Park Road at the Chapel of  the Transfiguration intersection. The new configuration she says is slated for 2016.  Scott says at a future time, the Park is considering the construction of a pathway adjacent the southern end of that route as well.
