Gov. Mead Seeks Grizzly Delisting

Governor Matt Mead

Governor Matt Mead is asking Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, to work with Wyoming to remove the grizzly bear from the Endangered Species List sooner than currently anticipated. Mead says delisting by the federal government appears to be at least two years away because an evaluation of data related to white bark pine is starting and is expected to take that long. Mead says he says there’s an urgency to the situation with four human deaths over the past two years.  He adds that Wyoming pays significantly to fund the management of grizzly bears.  That, he says averages about $2-million a year. Governor Mead thanked the Secretary for his work on wolves and sage-grouse and said he hoped the two could continue their cooperative relationship with regard to the grizzly bear.

  • Why can’t I find old-school camo? Wait, don’t answer that. - August 27, 2014
Where did that good old, brown, tan and black camo pattern go? You know what I mean. The pattern duck and goose hunters used to wear all the time. It was just splotches of dark brown, light brown and a little bit of black. Big splotches. I’ve been complaining for years that you can’t find […]
  • Familiar With the Grizzlies Personnel [AUDIO] - August 26, 2014
The Wyoming Cowboys much-anticipated opener of the Craig Bohl era is this Saturday in Laramie.  For the first time since 1997, the Cowboys play Montana, an FCS program out of the Big Sky Conference.  The Grizzlies come in as one of the top FCS teams in the country, ranked preseason #5.  They also return a […]
  • Show me a line, I’ll show you a wind knot - August 26, 2014
My fly line tippets never last me very long. Early in the season, I’ll put a new wind knot in a tippet on every cast. I’ve actually gotten two knots on a single cast before. I don’t even know how that’s possible, but I’ve done it. I’ve gotten wind knots in my leader, too, and […]
  • I’ll take a full-size truck, please - August 25, 2014
I mentioned last week that I’ve had the opportunity for an extended test drive of a Nissan Titan, and I compared it to the smaller Nissan Frontier. The Frontier’s smaller size gives it a little better ability to get through tight spots and over rough roads, but I still like a full-size truck for hunting […]
