School’s Out, Watch Out

June 13, 2012 Jackson Hole, Teton County Schools, Town of Jackson No Comments
school out

Today is the day that most of the valley’s young people have been looking forward to – it’s the first day of summer vacation.  Now that school is out, Jackson Police Chief Todd Smith says drivers on the town’s streets will need to be more attentive for children to be almost anywhere. Smith urges parents to provide their children with some guidance about safe summer behavior.  Among those cautions should be avoiding those areas that are heavily congested with people who may be on vacation here and unfamiliar with roadways so not always as aware as they should of children on bikes or skateboards.  Speaking of skateboards Smith reminds the areas youth that city ordinances prohibit the riding of skateboards on sidewalks within two blocks of the town square in the interest of safety and potential wear to the wooden sidewalks.  Smith suggests that we can prevent someone getting hurt if parents can spend a little time encouraging preventative behaviors.

In my opinion, everybody should go hunting each weekend of the hunting season. You don’t have to go after elk or deer every time. Change it up a little. Hunt doves on the first weekend, then try to get a blue grouse or two the next. Later in the fall, you can start working duck […]

The Wyoming Cowboys open up their football season at home against Montana tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon in Laramie.  It’s the first meeting between the two schools since 1997, and the Grizzlies enter the game as the fifth-ranked team in the FCS. On defense, the Cowboys top priority is to stop the run.  With a talented quarterback […]
  • Warmer Temperatures With Isolated Thunderstorms Expected Today - August 29, 2014
A weak ridge of high pressure will build over the region today, which will allow temperatures to become warmer and closer to average statewide.  However, some lingering low-level moisture and daytime heating could trigger a few hit or miss thunderstorms for the afternoon and early evening hours.  Gusty winds and lots of lightning will be […]

At the risk of sounding like I’ve been watching too much Top Gear, I need to go off on a bit of a rant right now. The good folks at Nissan let me drive a Titan for two full months, which was really nice of them. And it’s done a pretty good job of filling […]
