Unemployment Remains High Here
Teton County retained its dubious distinction of having the highest unemployment in the state during May, posting a jobless rate of 8.7% for the month. Still, that’s down from 11.4% in April. Meanwhile, the statewide average continued its decline to 5.2% compared with 6% during May of 2011. The lowest unemployment rate was again found in Sublette County where only 3.2% of the workforce was idled. The largest job gains were found in the leisure and hospitality, construction, government, retail and business service industries spurred by the warmer summer weather.
