Fontenelle Fire Grows To 300 Acres
The Fontenelle Fire northwest of La Barge has grown to 300 acres, actively burning in the heavy dead and down timber covering the area. Firefighters yesterday were able to keep the fire south of La Barge Creek Road. Late yesterday, the fire was taken over by a Type III fire team augmented by two helicopters. Forest Spokesperson Mary Cernicek says as yet, there have been no closures or evacuations prompted by the blaze. Cernicek says there are no structures threatened at this time, but there are a lot of trailheads and roadways through the area and the Forest is currently considering what steps to take to ensure that firefighters are safe and able to work unencumbered, and to make sure that recreationists are safe. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. It was first reported Sunday about 4:30 pm.
