Alta Man Rescued In Wilderness

A 66-year-old Alta, Wyoming man is hospitalized with injuries he sustained Thursday night when he was thrown from a horse in the vicinity of Green Mountain Lake in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.  According to Sergeant Tripp Wilson of the Teton County Sheriff’s Office, the county dispatch center received a call about 5:30 pm from a hiker in the area saying that the man, Steve Singer, was severely injured.  Considering the location of the accident, Wilson says members of the Teton County Search and Rescue team elected to respond with the help of the Teton Interagency Contract Helicopter.  He says Singer was located, and then carried on a backboard ½ mile to the helicopter which flew him to Jackson Hole Airport.  From there, Singer was taken by an ambulance to St. John’s Medical Center for treatment.  Information about Singer’s condition was not immediately available.
