A Lull In The Fire Season
Two recent fires have been controlled now and are no longer considered active. The Y Fire, reported Sunday, was held at 1/10 of an acre in the Greys River area and was controlled by Tuesday. The Pilgrim Fire in the Pilgrim Creek Drainage just north of Grand Teton National Park, also reported Sunday, was kept to less than ¼ acre. Both of the fires were lightning caused. Fire officials say after the lightning produced in the thunderstorms that came through the area early in the week, they are watching to see if any “sleeper” fires emerge as the weather dries and warms. Already last night, Jackson Hole Fire/EMS units from Hoback Junction and crews from Teton Interagency Fire were called to a single tree that was torching with flames estimated at 20-feet high just above the Dog Creek Work Center in Hoback Canyon. That fire is believed to have resulted from Sunday’s lighting storm. At this time, fire restrictions remain in place throughout Teton County, Bridger Teton National Forest and Grand Teton National Park.
