Cub Scout Field Day takes place at Miller Park, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. The purpose of this event is two fold: first, it is a great activity to get your Cub Scouts back together, and second, it is a good recruiting tool. So Packs be ready to sign up some new Scouts.

The 26th Annual Logan, Utah to Jackson Hole, Wyoming (LOTOJA CLASSIC) bicycle race takes place.  LOTOJA has grown from a small group of college friends at Utah State University to an event that includes over 1,000 cyclists and their families.  This year's participants come from 40 U.S. states, including Canada, and Australia. Cyclists will leave Logan, Utah early Saturday morning and travel north though Cache Valley to Preston, Idaho. From there, the race route weaves northeast on State Highway 36 through Strawberry/Emigration Canyon to the Junction of Highway 36 and US-89. The route continues on US-89 through Montpelier where it will climb and descend Geneva Summit and leave the State of Idaho heading east on US-89 and north through Star Valley and Snake River Canyon. Teton Village and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will be hosting the finish line again this year. The total length of the race is 206 miles and cyclists must complete this distance during daylight hours.
 

Bridger-Teton NF: Mt. Leidy Highlands Writer’s Tour— Join writer Katie Ives with Wilderness guide and Wyoming Wilderness Associaton staff Forrest McCarthy on a hike to Mt. Leidy Highlands. Ascend 1500 feet in under four miles to the summit of Mt. Leidy. These vistas, and our immersion in them, will provide the inspiration for our writing. Katie Ives graduated from the University of Iowa Writers Workshop with an MFA in Fiction, and is the senior editor for Alpinist Magazine. This year's Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival will include the Grand Teton Western & Wildlife Arts Show, Sept. 6-7 in the Snow King Resort ballroom. This juried event features more than 30 award-winning artists from Canada and the United States, exhibiting and selling their exceptional paintings, sculptures, wood carvings, bronze works and more. A cash bar reception will take place 5 to 7:30 pm  25 percent of proceeds from art sales will be donated to conservation and wildlife groups based in Wyoming. The Jackson Hole Elders are hosting a big band show and dinner. The USO-style fund-raising dinner show will take place at 5 pm in the Ballroom at the Virginian Convention Center.  Admission is $18 for seniors over 65 and children under 12 and $35 for adults.  Tickets are available at the door, Valley Books, Jackson Hole Grocers, Hungry Jacks, The Senior Center, The Virginian, River Rock Lodge or by calling Jackson Hole Elders. A cash bar will be available. Everyone is encouraged to dance and come dressed in 1940’s style dress if you like.

U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, and Representative Barbara Cubin, are urging Wyoming citizens who own homes or use facilities on land managed by the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) to make their voices heard on a proposed rule that could impact them. A revised rule proposed by the BOR makes clear how private individuals may use BOR lands, facilities and water bodies, including private, exclusive uses of those lands from trailers and mobile homes. The 60-day public comment period for this proposed rule is open until Sept. 16, 2008.

 

On Monday, September 15th from 6pm to 9:30pm Teton County Emergency Management will be providing the FEMA “Are You Ready?: An In-Depth Guide To Citizen Preparedness” course at the Station 1 Firehouse on E Pearl Ave. This general disaster preparedness course is free, materials are provided, and registration is required. On Tuesday, September 23rd from 6:30pm to 8pm Teton County Emergency Management, in cooperation with the National Weather Service Office in Riverton, will be hosting a Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow (CoCoRAHS) network training at the Station 6 firehouse near Teton Pines. This free class will teach participants how to accurately measure and report precipitation amounts to the National Weather Service. Course materials are provided.
