Jackson Hole POP! Fine Artisan Popcorn is recognized in the June 2015 issue of Food Network Magazine for its smoky “Campfire Kettle” Popcorn; and, as one of only four food trucks featured nationally as “pushing serious popcorn!” The sidebar feature titled “Corn on the Curb” lists Jackson Hole POP’s food truck along with two from Washington D.C. and one from Brooklyn, as part of the magazine’s regular “On the Road,” feature.
Jackson Hole POP is in its fourth year; and second with “The Kernel,” it’s highly visible food truck bearing the company’s eye-catching, pop art styled logo, that recently caught the attention of Food Network staff. Recommissioning a former High Country Linen delivery van into a fully self-contained food truck was a fun challenge according to Mike Daus, owner and founder of Jackson Hole POP; and Food Network Magazine had all kinds of questions for him about the project, his artisan popcorn flavors, and the inspiration behind the logo. Daus has become a local resource on the automotive, body, electrical, and plumbing systems work involved in this type of conversion.
Despite the fun, Daus said it is not without challenges. Perceived by some as a threat to brick and mortar businesses, some would ban all food trucks. But he and others hope that in the near future, local officials will consider rules to permit more access for mobile food businesses. Food trucks are becoming popular all over the country; and, Food Network Magazine makes a point of regularly featuring these innovative, affordable, popular and safe eating trends. Daus thinks food trucks can have their place in Jackson Hole too.
Jackson Hole POP’s locally handmade snack will be available again this summer at (farmers) markets, concerts, fairs and other popular area events. However, it is also now available at local supermarkets, gourmet retailers, coffee houses, select lodging properties and specialty gift outlets like Jeddediah’s at the Airport; as well as, online at www.jhpopcorn.com. In addition to the popular “Campfire Kettle,” Jackson Hole POP’s house flavors include the “Lucky Cowboy! 3-Way Mix,” which is a sweet, savory and salty blend of their other three favorites, “Cowboy Caramel,” “Outlaw Cheddar,” and “Grand Teton Theater Style” butter flavor popcorn. Other unique flavor combinations include: Chili Pepper Bacon Caramel, Sweet Thai Chili & Ginger, and White Chocolate Popcorn.
Food Network Magazine’s article lists some surprising popcorn facts, flavors and uses in the culinary industry. In cooperation with local eateries and watering holes, Jackson Hole POP has already been used as a bar snack, a salad garnish, and even as a desert topping. “Business is popping,” says Daus with a grin. Keep an eye out for the Jackson Hole POP! Fine Artisan Popcorn food truck this summer and, “honk if you love popcorn,” he adds with a corny grin.
