During public comment at Monday’s Town Council meeting, East Jackson Resident Lori Cahn said that the town should conduct a franchise review because of the practices of Westbank Sanitation. She said she had called the company to ask for a lesser service than once per week due to the fact that she recycles much of her waste stream. She was told that she was in a five year binding contract for weekly pickup.
Cahn said that she never intended to be locked into a provider and wants the town to look into the practice as part of the franchise fee charged to Westbank.
Other operators in town offer smaller commitments for trash pick-up.
Westbank Sanitation was not at the meeting to discuss the comments.
