A new cell tower designed as a church bell tower will rise 55 feet above the Redeemer Lutheran Church after the Town Council approve it last night.
The installation required a conditional use permit to exceed the height that tower engineers said they needed to allow at least three mobile carriers and give adequate cell coverage to the downtown area of Jackson.
The structure will also feature a large cross at the top.
Only Councilmember Jim Stanford opposed the decision saying he didn’t approve of a religious symbol 55 feet above the ground.
