Steamboat Geyser is on track to erupt the most times in one year in recorded history. Steamboat Geyser erupted Wednesday night at 8:37 pm for the 29th time this year, tying it for the all-time documented record. Park officials say that if the recent trend continues, it could erupt for a 30th time yet this year, breaking the record for eruptions of the spectacular thermal feature in recorded history. Steamboat geyser has been averaging 5 to 8 days between its eruptions since September, having only bubbled up to life in March after 3 ½ years of dormancy. Its eruptions of up to 300 feet high make it the tallest of any geyser in the world.
