The Great Basin Wildland Fire Coordination Center which serves this region of the west is currently working on an Interagency Response Plan and continue to coordinate with Federal, State and County partners in the wake of the COVIC-19 pandemic. Public Affairs Specialist Evan Guzik says every wildfire response will be different and based on careful consideration of all risks be that COVID-19 or other values important to the community. He adds that this year will be a little different with considerations around social distancing, fire camps and travel to and from incidents. Still, he says firefighters are used to ever changing and evolving conditions in their daily work and this is just one more consideration when making decisions on this. One guideline suggested by the National Interagency Fire Center is that firefighters camp in small groups instead of the typical fire camps made up of hundreds of firefighters and dining in smaller groups rather than a large buffet-style feeding arrangement.
