Fire season is here as the forests and fields have dried and cured. Exacerbated by lightning, the incidents of wildfires has picked up in the last week. Lightning tracked over southeast Idaho Saturday afternoon and evening, igniting multiple wildfires there. Fire crews responded quickly to the new starts. Crews responded to a small lightning kindled fire in Pole Canyon, and fires continue to burn northeast of Howe, another southwest of Malad, and a third northeast of Aberdeen. A lightning strike on Munger Mountain south of Jackson last week caused a single tree fire requiring a response. Fire officials throughout the region stress the importance of being responsible with the use of fire, extinguishing warming fires completely before walking away from them, and reporting any smoke they may see immediately.
