The Jackson/Teton County Recreation Center expansion project has been put on hold over a variety of concerns. The $22-million project is supposed to include a climbing gym, an indoor track, and other recreational amenities. However, the project has recently run into a number of snags ranging from the selection of a builder to the size of the climbing gym. The size of the climbing gym was sharply criticized by the Teton Climbers Coalition as having been designed to be too small. Meanwhile, local contractors have complained that they are not being given fair consideration to be contracted to do the work. For now, the project will undergo some design changes before it moves ahead. The pricey project was approved last year during the SPET election.
