Fire Continues to Burn Near Old Faithful

by Jackson Hole Radio News

Cooler, wetter weather is expected to slightly decrease fire activity today, but the Lone Star Fire is expected to continue to burn. Over the weekend, the fire grew to 3,346 acres due to high temperatures and gusty winds, with significant growth on its east side.  The Grand Loop Road between Old Faithful and West Thumb is open today but had closed for several hours Sunday due to smoke and low visibility. Smoke from the fire as well as ice and snow could also cause a temporary closure of the road. The Grand Loop Road between Mud Volcano and Fishing Bridge on the east side of the park has reopened after about a week’s closure during clean-up after a 3000-gallon gasoline spill there.
