New Fire in Yellowstone

Yellowstone National Park is reporting a new fire – this one in the southeastern corner of the park. Officials say the lightning-caused Hancock fire is less than a tenth of an acre and in the Heart Lake area of the park. Since the single tree involved has low spread potential and is located in a remote area, several miles from a trail, fire staff will monitor it and will not take direct action. There are no closures in the area and campsites and trails remain open. Meanwhile, the Lone Star Fire south of the Old Faithful area has seen no growth for several days, and has 45 firefighters involved in creating a fire buffer that will continue to protect natural resources, cultural treasures, and visitors and residents well into the future.
