Jackson Police were called to the Mountain Modern Motel on W. Broadway early Tuesday morning to investigate a stolen vehicle. The victim stated that he turned the car on to warm it up just prior to going to work, and a few moments later he saw the vehicle driving out of the parking lot. He immediately reported the vehicle stolen. A responding patrol sergeant spotted the Toyota Corolla southbound on Buffalo Way approaching Maple Way and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, instead of stopping, it turned southbound on US Highway 89. Another Jackson unit joined in the pursuit as the vehicle continued southbound at speeds approaching 100 mph. The second unit to get involved continued to pursue the vehicle south of the Town of Jackson. Based on the extreme speeds at which the driver was eluding law enforcement, police terminated the pursuit. A Teton County Sheriff’s deputy on duty as well as the Wyoming Highway Patrol were notified, and at 04:23 am, a Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper spotted the vehicle near the Town of Alpine and another pursuit ensued southbound on US 89. The state trooper pursued the vehicle at speeds reaching 100mph again. Just north of Etna, Wyoming the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office attempted unsuccessfully to end the pursuit with Stop Sticks. The vehicle continued southbound eluding the Wyoming Highway Patrol and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Then, just north of the town of Grover, the stolen vehicle crashed into a fence. A 32-year-old Colorado man was taken into custody for charges in Lincoln County without further incident. Charges are pending in Teton County and the Town of Jackson relating the theft of the vehicle and the pursuit.
