Forest to burn Pinedale piles

by Jackson Hole Radio News

The Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest has begun pile burning operations in the Sylvan Bay and Skyline Drive areas this week. These piles are from the Skyline Wildland Urban Interface Fuels Reduction Project, which was started in 2016.

Fire personnel will be utilizing favorable weather conditions and the existing snow to ensure that the piles remain within their perimeter. Smoke impacts should remain at a minimum for the public.

The Skyline WUI Fuels Reduction Project is a 2,247-acre project, designed to reduce fuel loading across the landscape surrounding Skyline Drive.

The goal is to limit the spread of a high intensity/severity wildfire, provide greater defensible space lowering the risk from wildfire to homes and private property, and increase public and firefighter safety in the event of a wildfire.
