Mike Estes, formerly with the Teton County Parks and Recreation Department, has become the new Teton County Search and Rescue Coordinator as of March 29th. Estes is one of the original Teton County Search and Rescue volunteers and replaces Jess King who has held the title of Coordinator for the past 7 years.
King decided to take some time to travel and be closer to family. This transition has presented an opportunity for Teton County Search and Rescue to evaluate the roles of the coordinator and Board of Advisors in leading the team of volunteers.
Estes’ primary role will be to support the Search and Rescue Board of Advisors in ensuring the team is rescue ready at all times. He will be responsible for record-keeping and organization, ensuring gear maintenance, and facilitating training.
Estes will coordinate communications between Teton County Search and Rescue and various partners such as the Sheriff’s Department and the National Park. While he is an employee of the Sheriff’s Department, he will take the majority of his direction from Search and Rescue Chief Advisor Cody Lockhart and the Board. On missions, Estes will not be in command or in the field but will continue to provide mission support as needed.
