Injured player recovering

The Star Valley High School soccer player who suffered a serious head injury during last Thursday’s game in Jackson is reportedly on the mend. According to the Star Valley Independent, a family member of Ethan Nelson told SVI that Ethan is now awake and off the ventilator. He is talking and doing well. The family member said Ethan is able to eat ice chips and drink water.

Ethan was acting as the goalie for Star Valley in Thursday’s game and dove for the ball to prevent a goal. As fate would have it, that was just as another player was about to kick the ball and Ethan took the kick to his head.

He was life-flighted to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho and placed on a ventilator. Reports from the family indicate he is steadily improving. A “Go Fund Me” account has been established to help defray medical expenses and has so far raised over $25,300.
