Fire in Yellowstone

Yellowstone Park’s first wildfire is burning. The Elk Creek Fire in northern Yellowstone National Park that was sparked by lightning Thursday night. The fire was reported by a park visitor on a ridge south of Blacktail Drive and west of Petrified Tree. At last report, the fire was limited to 1/10 of an acre and was undergoing immediate suppression. This is the first wildfire of the season in Yellowstone, but concerns are that this summer could become very busy with the fire danger already considered very high. As yet, no further fire restrictions have been invoked other than fires being limited to established fire pits.
