Yellowstone National Park fire officials have lowered the fire danger rating to HIGH, and lifted stage 1 fire restrictions due to the recent widespread rain. The rating had been “very high” until this weekend, but park officials say an average of two inches of rain fell across the park through the past week. Campfires are currently allowed within established fire rings in campgrounds and some backcountry campsites. Of course, campfires must always be attended and cold to the touch before abandoning. Soak, stir, feel and repeat until cold. Currently there are no active wildfires in the park, but visibility in the park varies due to drifting smoke from wildfires throughout the West.
