9/11 remembered

Approximately three score Jackson residents joined the community’s first responders Saturday morning to mark the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that changed life in America forever. Led by the Jackson Hole Fire Department, the group remembered the 2977 who died in the attacks including 2602 in the World Trade Center, 125 at the Pentagon, and 265 on the four hijacked planes – as well as 344 firefighters and 71 police officers. They also noted those who have died as a result of conditions resulting from exposure to the initial attacks and those who have fought in the war against terrorism that evolved from the attacks. The commemoration featured the four five-bell ceremony that fire service have traditionally  used to announce deaths since the death of President Abraham Lincoln.
