Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue told reporters today that the autopsy of the body of Gabby Petito has revealed that the 22-year-old was murdered by strangulation.
Blue said that due to Wyoming state statutes, very limited information about the autopsy could be released beyond the manner and cause of death.
He said that Petito’s body had remained exposed in the wild for three to four weeks before it was recovered and noted that DNA samples as well as entomological samples were gathered by the FBI.
Blue said that Petito was not pregnant when she was killed. He could not reveal the results of any toxicology reports.
Petito was reported missing September 11 after her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, returned from the couple’s road trip alone.
Her remains were located in the Spread Creek dispersed camping area in the Bridger-Teton National Forest north of Jackson.
