It’s officially winter in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. The West, South and East entrances and all roads, in Yellowstone with one exception, closed over the weekend. The exception is the road from the park’s North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, through Mammoth Hot Springs to the Northeast Entrance and communities of Cooke City and Silver Gate, Montana. That road is open all year, weather-permitting.
Weekend snow blanketed Mammoth Hot Springs and points north. The winter season in Yellowstone is set to begin with snow coach and snowmobile travel on December 15th. Meanwhile, the Teton Park Road is closed now as well, along with the Moose Wilson Road. The Teton Park Road will reopen April 30th to vehicle traffic while the Moose-Wilson Road won’t reopen until mid-May.
