The National Park Service is providing three live presentations on biting and stinging insect envenomation, delusion infestations, and a recap of the 2021 National Park Service Integrated Pest Management Webinar Series for park concessioners.
Just like parks, concessioners are responsible for managing weeds, harmful insects, rats, mice and other pests within their in-park facilities. Under the authority of the 2006 National Park Services Management Policies, concessioners must comply with the NPS’s Integrated Pest Management Policies regarding pest management.
The policy is a science-based decision-making process that determines the most appropriate and cost-effective management solution for the specific pest situation which includes identification of the pest, understanding the use and significance of a site or the importance of protecting a historic item, and education of the people involved.
The NPS’s IPM Program works to protect national park resources from detrimental pests, while also reducing risks to people and the environment from pests and pest-related management strategies.
