Statistics released by Yellowstone National Park this weekend indicate 2021 was the busiest week ever since the 150-year-old park was founded. According to the Visitor Use Statistics Office, the park hosted 4,860,537 recreation visits in 2021. That’s up 28% from 2020 when 3,806,306 visits were counted.
In December alone, visitation was up 18.45% in 2021. As is almost always the case, visitation for May, June, July, August, and September were the busiest on record. However, July was also the most-visited month on record in Yellowstone’s history, for first time exceeding 1-million visits in a single month.
Park records show the second busiest year in its history was 2016 when 4,257,177 visits were made to the park.
