Teton Interagency Dispatch Center received a call Sunday afternoon regarding a skier involved in a fall in the Apocalypse Couloir in Death Canyon. Park Spokesman C.J. Adams says Grand Teton National Park rangers together with Teton County Search and Rescue jointly responded to the incident.
Adams says a climber in Death Canyon reported witnessing an individual fall in the couloir, who appeared to be unresponsive. Rescue personnel responded with the Teton County Search and Rescue helicopter to provide medical care. Unfortunately, 27-year-old Jackson, Wyoming resident Radcliff Spencer’s fall was fatal.
Adams says Spencer was attempting to ski the couloir when the accident occurred. Spencer’s remains were flown from the backcountry and transferred to the Teton County Coroner. Four remaining members of Spencer’s party were transported out of the canyon via helicopter.
