An unidentified skier died and a second one was injured when they were caught n an avalanche yesterday afternoon on the western slope of the Tetons. According to Teton County Search and Rescue, authorities were notified of the incident at 3:20 pm and rescue personnel responded to the Game Creek Drainage outside of Victor.
Initial reports indicated that an older man and older woman were buried and uncovered by their companions. The man was unconscious and not breathing, and companions began CPR. The woman was breathing, conscious, and ambulatory. Teton County Search and Rescue responded via helicopter as companions on the ground continued CPR.
While Search and Rescue was en-route, it was determined that the male skier had passed away. Rescuers arrived on scene and transported the woman out of the backcountry to a waiting ambulance. Identification of the deceased skier is awaiting notification of next of kin.
This was Wyoming’s second avalanche fatality of the season, and the first in the Tetons.
