As of today, Jackson Hole Airport is closed until June 28th while the runway is replaced from the sub-base up. Other improvements are being made inside the terminal as well. Regional TSA Public Affairs Officer Lori Dankers says while remodeling of the screening area is being done, new generation screening equipment is being put into place.
“New devices scan a traveler’s ID – it’s called credential authentication technology – a traveler can insert it himself. The unit is able to read the photo ID the passenger presents. It confirms they are a ticketed traveler that day. It also confirms that they are not on any kind of watch-list. And the TSDA officer is able to get all of this information on the screen without even touching the individuals photo ID.”
The other device does a 3-D scan of carry-on items so that an agent will not have to physically go through those bags. Dankers says TSA is quite excited about both new technologies which will not only be less invasive for passengers, but speed up the process.
