Jackson Hole flyers prepare to use Idaho Falls airport

The Jackson Hole Airport will be closed for slightly over two months beginning Monday, and the Transportation Security Administration assures members of the local Jackson community that it is prepared to accommodate and screen additional travelers at neighboring airports during the temporary closure. Of course, the closest airport to Jackson is Idaho Falls Regional Airport, which TSA spokesperson Lorie Dankers says has a relatively small screening facility.

“The checkpoint in Idaho Falls is only a two-lane checkpoint, and so there’s a finite number of officers we can assign there, because there would be no additional space for them to work. But what that means is that we will be sure to have the lanes open – both of them – when the passenger volume projection calls for that.”

Considering the crush at the alternative airports, Dankers says passengers should be prepared for longer screening lines and she offers tips to expedite the screening.

“Make sure you don’t bring prohibited items: knives, large tools, oversized liquids – anything over more than 100 milliliters. Every time we have to do a bag check, it slows you down, slows everybody behind you, and it slows the overall efficiency of the screening experience itself. The other thing I like to tell people is instead of throwing everything in the bin that was in your pocket, just stick it in your carry-on so you don’t leave it behind.”

The Jackson Hole Airport closure is to be from April 11th through June 28th.
