Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has just signed emergency rules authored by the Wyoming State Livestock Board pertaining to the spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. Effective immediately, all poultry events, including exhibitions, swaps, tours, sales, and competitions, are prohibited. This prohibition does not include catalog or retail sale of poultry.

The Wyoming Livestock Board, in consultation with the State Veterinarian, will monitor the spread and severity of the HPAI outbreak and will reevaluate these rules accordingly. Here in Jackson Hole, there are no large poultry operations. However, residents with limited backyard poultry flocks are quite numerous.

It is being recommended that those with such operatons not intermingle with others engaged in similar activity, and to keep their domestic foul under roof to ensure against coming into contact with possibly infected wild birds.
