A 25-year-old Grove City Ohio woman was gored by a bison after she approached it too closely Monday morning. According to a release from Yellowstone National Park, the unidentified woman along with two other individuals were visiting the Black Sand Basin area just north of the Old Faithful Thermal area.

The report states that the bison was near the boardwalk and the woman continued to approach it. The bison charged her and tossed her ten feet into the air. The other two individuals were also within 25 yards of the animal but were not attacked.

Park regulations require visitors to remain more than 25 yards away from bison. The woman who as attacked sustained puncture wounds and other injures and was transported by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.

This is the first reported incident in 2022 of a visitor approaching too close to a bison and the bison reacting to the perceived threat by goring the individual.
