On Saturday evening, May 13, Yellowstone rangers responded to an incident near Craig Pass, about three miles south of Old Faithful. They found a car that had driven into a snowbank, and a man was standing outside the vehicle. Inside the car, they discovered a deceased woman.
The man was taken into custody and later arrested for drug possession and other traffic-related charges. Investigators are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and working on informing her next of kin.
The investigation is being conducted by the National Park Service, specifically the Investigative Services Branch and Yellowstone Law Enforcement Division. They are receiving assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Attorney’s Office, and Teton County Coroner’s Office.
The road connecting Old Faithful and West Thumb was closed for about 24 hours while the scene was examined. It was reopened on Sunday evening.
