Fire Dept Reminds on Holiday Flame

December 11, 2018 by Jackson Hole Radio

Does your Christmas decorating around the house involve the use of candles? Jackson/Teton County Fire Marshal Kathy Clay cautions that candles can pose a major threat to fire safety.
And here’s a surprising holiday statistic: the National Fire Protection Association says that cooking and cooking equipment cause 48% of home fires that resulted in 21% of the home fire deaths and 45% of the injuries.
When you are cooking, it is a good idea to keep a lid nearby to smother small grease fires. Then leave the pan covered until it is completely cooled. For an oven fire, turn off the heat and keep the door closed.
