A visitor from Massachusetts was seriously injured by a bear on Sunday afternoon at Grand Teton National Park. The 35-year-old male was hiking near Signal Mountain Summit Road when he encountered two grizzly bears, resulting in the injury. Emergency responders, including park rangers and Teton County Search and Rescue, provided immediate medical care. The injured man was airlifted to St. John’s Hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition and expected to recover fully.
Following the incident, the area around Signal Mountain Summit Road and trail has been closed to the public. An investigation is ongoing to understand more about the circumstances of the bear encounter.
Park officials remind visitors to be vigilant about bear safety. Recommendations include securing food, storing garbage properly, and keeping a safe distance from wildlife. Additional safety tips include making noise while hiking, carrying bear spray, and not running if a bear is encountered.
