Head-On Collisions Kills 4 Near Driggs – 1 Near Idaho Falls

Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Friday night in Teton County. They are trying to determine what caused a 2022 Tesla to cross the centerline and collide head-on with a 2007 Kenworth commercial truck.

The driver of the Tesla, a 46-year-old woman from Utah, was eastbound on State Highway 33 near milepost 125, west of Driggs Her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with the Kenworth commercial vehicle, driven by a 44-year-old male of Rexburg, Idaho, was westbound. The driver of the Tesla three others occupants including a 22-year-old woman, a 24-year-old man, and a juvenile were killed.

The occupants of the Tesla and commercial vehicle were wearing seatbelts.
The eastbound and westbound lanes of State Highway 33 were blocked for 8 hours while crews worked to clear the scene.  

A separate accident near Idaho Falls occurred on Saturday.

The wreck, which killed A 37-year-old man, happened on the South Yellowstone Highway just south of West 65th South, in Bonneville County. ,

A 19-year-old man from Idaho Falls, was driving northbound in a Ford Explorer, while the other driver, from Shelley, was driving southbound in a Nissan Murano. 

The Ford crossed the center line and impacted the Nissan head-on. The Ford came to rest on the southbound right shoulder and the Nissan in the northbound lane of travel. 

The 37-year-old male succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. 

The 19-year-old-male was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. Emerson Martin Garcia Calderon was later arrested on a warrant for Felony Vehicle Manslaughter. At the time of the crash his blood alcohol level was .21. The legal limit for a driver under the age of 21 is .02.

Both directions of travel were blocked for approximately four hours.
