Jackson Hole Public Art and the Center for the Arts invite the community to celebrate the opening of Inverted Florarium, a new installation by local artist Bronwyn Minton, on June 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in The Center Courtyard, located at 240 S. Glenwood St., Jackson, Wyoming. The event includes coffee, pastries, and a conversation with Minton about the inspiration and creation of this site-specific work, crafted entirely from repurposed paragliding wings.
Inverted Florarium reimagines Wyoming’s state flower, the Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja spp.), as a large, inverted bloom suspended above a field of colorful blossoms, with tendrils connecting the forms below. Housed in The Center’s glass courtyard, the installation evokes a terrarium, presenting the sculpture as both an ecosystem and a specimen. Minton’s work explores ecology, resilience, and perspective through soft sculpture, using reclaimed paraglider fabric to symbolize the interplay between human-made objects and nature. The piece shifts scales—transforming a small wildflower into a monumental form—inviting viewers to reflect on the power of native plants and ecosystems.
Minton, a Jackson-based multidisciplinary artist with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, described the project as a joyful challenge, citing the unique scale, material, and location. The installation, which will evolve over its year-long display, is supported by donations from local paragliders Scott Harris, Geoff Sharp, and Destin Peters. Additional wing donations are welcomed; contact robin@jhpublicart.org to contribute.
Sponsored by the Center for the Arts and Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling, Inverted Florarium reflects Minton’s acclaimed practice, recognized with awards like the Wyoming Governor’s Arts Award and Wyoming Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowships. Her work, spanning sculpture, drawing, and interactive installations, consistently engages with human-nature connections, as seen in collections worldwide.
