After the first two legs of the Pedigree Stage Stop Race, Anny Malo appears intent on defending her 2019 championship. Malo turned in a blistering run on the opening day in Alpine, covering the 28-mile course along the Greys River with an astonishing 16.2 mph average. She was followed by Lina Streeper and Jeff Conn. Sunday’s times in Pinedale were a bit slower due to headwinds and more rolling terrain. But it was an identical 1-2-3 finish for Malo, Streeper, and Conn. Overall, Malo now holds a nearly 4-minute lead over 2nd place Streeper. Conn is within striking distance at 3rd. Rachel Courtney, Alix Crittenden and Bruce Magnuson round out the top 6 mushers so far. The teams will run Monday in Kemmerer where conditions are expected to be snowy and cold—just how the dogs like it.
