The hunting and trapping of wolves in Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ Region 3 which includes the area just outside Yellowstone National Park closed yesterday. Protection for the gray wolf in the midwest and western states has been restored by a court order. A federal court Thursday restored Endangered Species Act protections for the gray wolf after they were eliminated in 2020. The ruling orders the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to resume recovery efforts for the species.
