Questions Arise on Suspect’s Release From Hospital
A tragic series of events in Teton Valley began late Thursday and ended with the arrest of Jeremy Best in Bonneville County Sunday morning.
And some are questioning whether it had to happen.
On Thursday just before midnight, authorities received a 911 call from a residence in Victor when law enforcement responded they found 38-year-old Kali Robbins, Best’s wife, dead from an apparent homicide.
The couple’s 10-month-old son Zeke was missing from the home.
Teton County Sheriff’s Department issued an Amber Alert and the search to find Best and his son began.
It ended just after nine Saturday morning when a group of hunters came across Best who was in a sleeping bag on the side of Kepps Crossing Road, southeast of Idaho Falls.
Deputies located Best’s SUV down an embankment and also located the body of Zeke Best.
It had been reported by EastIdahoNews.com that Best had been encountered earlier in the day on Thursday at a store in Swan Valley naked and making odd statements.
Best was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by ambulance for mental health concerns, but was discharged later Thursday afternoon.
Commenters on social media questioned whether officials should have allowed Best’s release. One commenter said Idaho Laws need to be changed to allow for longer mental health holds.
Best is in the Bonneville County Jail.
